Amar Desh is a prominent Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh, known for its bold journalism and commitment to national and regional news coverage.
History and Ownership
Founded on September 23, 2004 by Mosaddek Ali Falu and Enayetur Rahman Bappi. In 2008, Mahmudur Rahman and others acquired the paper, Rahman is the chairperson and acting editor.
Editorial Policy
Amar Desh is famous for its investigative journalism in political and administrative sector. Our mission is to fight against corruption, protect national independence and people’s interest.
Closure and Re-launch
The paper was shut down twice during Awami League government, both times after the editor Mahmudur Rahman was arrested. First time on June 1, 2010 after his arrest and it was closed for 10 days. Second time on April 11, 2013 after Amar Desh published leaked Skype conversation of Chief Justice of Bangladesh’s war crimes tribunal. After Hasina government’s fall, the paper re-launched its print edition on December 22, 2024 and started regular publication and new website.
Circulation and Reach
Before it was shut down in 2013 Amar Desh had a daily circulation of around 200,000. It was one of the most popular newspapers in Bangladesh. Head office: Dhaka Trade Centre, 99, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Karwan Bazar-1215, Dhaka.

Notable Journalism
The newspaper has done some significant investigative journalism. For example on April 6, 2012 it published a photo which led to the identification of labour leader Aminul Islam’s body. Aminul’s murder drew international attention and highlighted the risks faced by labour activists in Bangladesh.
